You only get one skin!
Very few things in life are forever; your skin is one of them. The decisions made on skin care early in life make a dramatic difference in your appearance in middle age and senior years. How many times have we heard and even said, “If I only knew then what I know now”, and that definitely applies to skin care. The fact is the effect of sun damage doesn’t appear until after the first 18 years of your life. But, it is never too late to start and the sooner the better!!
Here are some of our recommendations of products and procedures to prevent, treat, and correct the many skin issues concerning different age categories.
*Babies- 0-6 months should be kept indoors from the sun or wear appropriate clothing that totally shades/covers from the sun’s harmful rays. A great beginning for a newborn.
*6 months and older-Physical sunblock. No harmful chemicals. Our recommendation is Vanicream 60-which contains 7.5% Zinc Oxide & 7.5% Titanium Dioxide. Protects from UVA & UVB Rays. An absolutely smart idea given by one of our estheticians to all of her clients is to place a small bottle or tube of sunscreen next to your toddler’s toothbrush and teach him/her as a part of their morning regimen to apply sunscreen. Doing this at such an early age can only develop into a Good Habit that will benefit them for years!
*Teenage years-Sunscreen, sunless tanners (SunFx Spray Tan), bareMinerals makeup, Diacneal Skin Care as an acne management treatment, microdermabrasions, and acne management facials which includes a deep cleansing, exfoliation, and extractions. This facial aids in eliminating bacteria on the surface of the skin and helps to control future breakouts.
*Young Adult-Sunscreen, sunless tanners (SunFx Spray Tan, Au Courant self tanner), bareMinerals makeup, light chemical peels, facials, Botox, Obagi skin care regimen, microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion delivers a controlled stream of micro crystals over the skin by gently polishing the skin and removing dead skin cells. The procedure can help acne-prone skin by unclogging blocked pores and clearing up blackheads and whiteheads. The procedure generally takes about 30 minutes, and normal activities can be resumed immediately.
*Mature Skin-Sunscreen, sunless tanners (SunFx spray Tan, Au Courant self tanner), bareMinerals makeup, Nectifirm and other skin care regimens, facials, Microdermabrasions, chemical peels, Botox, dermal fillers such as Sculptra, Restylane, Captique, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Collagens, Laser procedures,IPL photorejuvenation- Intense Pulses of Light is delivered to an area which stimulates collagen production. This procedure also reduces fine lines, broken capillaries, fades freckles & age spots, and reduces pore size while improving skin tone and elasticity.
There is no secret potion, lotion, or cream to totally erase the damage that time and the sun has done, but the common denominator in the age categories above is SUNSCREEN! It truly does make the difference when used daily beginning early in life. Besides prolonging the aging effect it has on skin, it aids in the prevention of skin cancer.

 Summer LEGS
It’s time for shorts, swimsuits, skirts, and sandals that expose thighs, legs, and ankles. Millions of women dread this time of year because of the unsightly veins in these areas.
Spider veins, medically known as telangiectasias, are small, thin veins that lie close to the surface of the skin and appear red, blue or purple in color. There are many contributing factors to the development of spider veins such as heredity, pregnancy and other hormonal shifts, weight gain, occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing, and the use of certain medications.
Sclerotherapy, a procedure in which the veins are injected with a solution that causes the vein to collapse and fade from view, can enhance the appearance of your legs and your self confidence. The best Candidates for Sclerotherapy usually fall between 30-60 years of age although spider veins may become noticeable very early on in the teen years. For others, the veins may not become obvious until they reach their 40’s. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may be advised to postpone sclerotherapy. In most cases, spider veins that appear during pregnancy will disappear on their own within three months after the baby is born. Men usually do not have cosmetic concerns for spider veins because the veins are usually concealed by hair growth on the legs. However, sclerotherapy is just as effective for men who seek treatment.
Before you decide to have sclerotherapy, think carefully about your expectations and schedule a consultation to discuss the procedure
with our leg vein specialists. It is unrealistic to believe that every affected vein will disappear completely as a result of treatment, but they will appear lighter after each sclerotherapy session. Two or more sessions are usually required to achieve optimal results.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL
And while we’re talking legs for summer, go for that sleek, smooth look! Why hassle with creams, lotions, mousse, and razors! Laser hair removal is one of the most popular and effective options for removing hair and the legs are’nt the only areas that can be treated.
Laser hair removal is the use of laser energy to produce long-term hair reduction. It produces heat which is transferred to the hair follicle to disable or destroy the root without harming the surrounding skin. It is most effective on dark hair. Prices vary depending on areas treated and the number of treatment sessions needed. A consultation is required with our laser hair removal specialists to make these determinations.
If you shave it, pluck it, or wax it, laser hair removal may be your solution.
Consumer Alert: Because of the high demand of this cosmetic procedure, many facilities are offering laser hair removal treatments. This procedure has the greatest incidence of burning, blistering, and scarring of the skin. Most of these incidences occur in facilities utilizing poor technology and inadequately trained staff. Therfore, laser hair removal should be performed by a thoroughly trained medical professional in a medical clinic with comprehensive knowledge of the many skin types and the correct technology to treat each of those types.
