Are You Exfoliating?

Ways to Exfoliate Your Skin

Advanced Skin & Laser Center is proud to offer the best when it comes to Brentwood dermatology. As your trusted dermatologist, we offer a wide variety of cosmetic dermatology services in order to give you the healthy skin you've always wanted. One of the things you can do to maintain or improve your skin's quality is exfoliate your skin, a simple skin care method that you can actually perform at home.

To exfoliate means to remove your dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin. When you get rid of these dead cells, you expose the healthy and radiant skin lying beneath them. You can exfoliate your skin in a number of ways. We're more than happy to show you a few of these methods that are simple and easy to do at home.

A Textured Sponge

Rubbing your skin with a textured sponge will remove any excess dead skin or skin flakes and leave your skin feeling softer and cleaner than ever. Before starting, it's best to begin with a warm bath or shower so your pores will open up and make your skin much easier to clean. You should then scrub your face and body gently in small circular motions to remove the surface layer of dead skin. When you're done, rinse your face and body clean. It's also important to note that while a sponge will work, you can also use other items such as a rough washcloth or a loofah.

A Chemical Exfoliator

Another way you can exfoliate your skin is through the purchase of a chemical exfoliator which you can find at most drug stores. Just like with the process of using a textured sponge, it's best to start by taking a warm bath or shower first; exfoliation is much easier when your pores are open. After you're done, place some of the exfoliator into your hands and rub it all over your skin with gentle, circular motions. Leave it on your face or body for a few minutes and then rinse yourself completely afterward, making sure to wash all of the exfoliator off.

Baking Soda

While this one may sound weird, many people have attested that this actually works! For this process, you should put about a tablespoon of baking soda in a bowl of water. Mix the ingredients until it turns into a paste-like substance and once it acquires some thickness, apply some of it onto your face or other desired areas. Rub it in with small circular motions for a few minutes to make sure that you're taking care of all your skin's problems. Once you're done, rinse your face with warm water to get all the baking soda out and then splash your face with cool water to make your pores close.
