The Weather & Your Skin

It is spring here in Brentwood, Tennessee and although the extra daylight and lovely weather is welcome, weather change can also bring out a change in your skin. At Advanced Skin and Laser Center our number one priority is treating skin and educating our patients on how to maintain beautiful skin. You may have wondered how a change in climate and weather can affect your skin and how to be prepared, and we are here to help!

How Cold Weather Affects Your Skin

Each season it seems that we always have our skin figured out and then just like that, we are thrust into the next season and our skin is thrown into another adjustment period. Weather can have a huge affect on our skin as you probably have noticed when it is too hot or dry outside. The winter months are likely to bring cold winds that irritate the skin that is exposed which is usually hands and face. These harsh and dry conditions tend to strip your skin of natural moisture and eventually lead to dry red patches on the affected areas. Although it might not seem that dry skin can lead to acne, these dry patches can clog your pours, which can lead to breakouts.

How Hot & Humid Weather Affects Skin

While this leads people to believe that summer will bring glowing skin, this can also be a brutal time to manage healthy skin. Depending on where you are living, you will want to be on alert for heat and humidity that can be the cause of bacterial and fungal infections. Heat and humidity cause people to sweat more, which in-turn means more oil that can lead to clogged pores and acne. It is not only the weather but also activities during hotter weather that can lead to issues with the skin such as UV protection that can clog pores on the skin. During this time we would recommend using oil-free based sunscreens to best protect your skin.
